Spitfire Scramble 15-07-17 – 16-07-17

The Hornchurch Aerodrome Historical Society attended their first Spitfire Scramble 24-hour endurance race over the weekend of 15th – 16th July 2017. No, we did not take part in any running, but we were on hand to help to start the race on Saturday at 12 noon by winding up our air raid siren and setting the runners on their way and then at midday on Sunday letting the siren wale out to finish the race. In total 720 brave runners took part in proceedings during the weekends relay race, with many traveling from many corners of the country and foreign lands.
Our static display was very well received by everyone that came along to have a look, with many of the people commenting that we were doing such a great job in helping to keep the memory of the former aerodrome alive.

We have been invited back again for next year’s event, so watch this space for further details.
